About the Bath Minerva Choir

The Bath Minerva Choir - click to enlargeBath Minerva Choir was started in 1991 by some members of the former Bath Georgian Festival Chorus. At first called the Bath Sinfonietta Chorus, it took its present name in 1994 – after Sulis Minerva, the Celtic/ Roman goddess of the sacred springs of Bath.

Bath Minerva Choir has always been a non-auditioning choir. During its history we have sung many of the best known (and some lesser known) works of the choral repertoire. In recent years we have sung Brahms' German Requiem, Vivaldi's Gloria, David Fanshawe's African Sanctus (with the composer), numerous performances of Messiah, Elijah with Sir Willard White, Mozart's Requiem, Haydn's Creation, Verdi's Requiem, and many other works.

Our plans for 2008 are for a concert of sacred music by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Tavener in April, an opera Gala in the summer, and Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms in November.

We rehearse on Saturday mornings from 10.30 till 12.30 at the Nexus Walcot Methodist Church Hall, Nelson Place East, London Road, Bath [see map]. We welcome prospective new members – especially tenors at the moment! See Joining the Choir.
